The Best Chrome Extensions for D2L Brightspace (2026)

Brightspace is a capable LMS, but its out-of-the-box experience leaves gaps — and a small ecosystem of Chrome extensions has grown to fill them. Almost all of them are built for students. Exactly one is built for teachers. Here's the honest map.

Tasks for Canvas (now supporting Brightspace) — the heavyweight

With roughly 800,000 users and a 4.7★ rating, BetterCampus's to-do sidebar is by far the most popular extension in this space. It started Canvas-only and added D2L Brightspace support in 2025. It gives students one sidebar listing upcoming and past-due work across courses. If you're a student who just wants a cleaner view of what's due, this is the safest pick on this list — it's a Verified Publisher and a Featured extension on the Chrome Web Store.

Brightspace/D2L PLUS — the grade tinkerer

About 340 users, 4.9★ — the best rating of any Brightspace extension. It adds what-if grade simulation ("what do I need on the final?"), weighted categories, custom themes, and smart grade imports. Purely student-facing, and very good at what it does.

Brightspace Assignment Tracker — the dashboard

A small extension (a couple dozen users) with an ambitious feature set: List, Calendar, Kanban and Timeline views of your assignments, calendar export, and — uniquely on this list — AI syllabus scraping that reads a PDF syllabus and extracts due dates. It's also one of only two paid extensions here, at $5 USD/semester.

Spark for Brightspace — the minimalist

Tiny (under 30 KB) and free: all your assignments from all courses in one place, sorted by due date. No accounts, no dashboard, no AI. Sometimes that's exactly right.

Dark modes and utilities

A cluster of small single-purpose tools rounds out the student side: DarkSpace and Dark2L (dark themes), BrightSpace Open In New Tab and Linkternal (link behavior fixes), and Brightspace layout fixer (declutters the course list). All free; ratings range widely.

For teachers

Here's the surprising part of the audit: of the ten-plus Brightspace extensions on the Chrome Web Store, the teacher side is almost empty. Brightspace Percentager (a percentage calculator for grading) and TurboGrading (AI-assisted grading for D2L and Blackboard) help with marking. But for the everyday teacher question — who hasn't handed this in, and how do I reach their family? — there is exactly one option.
